1. Report: Fast & Frictionless: The New Reality for DTC Brands

Our latest report, written in partnership with Endless Gain, utilizes consumer and brand attitudes, as well as cutting-edge biometric research to shine a light on the shake-up being caused by the direct-to-consumer (DTC) movement.

2. News: Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT Returns

Making Tax Digital is an HMRC initiative that requires UK businesses to submit their tax returns and payments online, while also keeping digital records of their taxes.

It will be mandatory from 1st April 2019 for all VAT registered businesses that have a taxable turnover above the registration threshold of £85,000.

This is a significant change from today’s processes, which sees the majority of UK businesses manually re-keying their VAT returns into HMRC’s online portal.

With this change in legislation in mind, one of our Product Managers, Richard Rattlidge, recently shed some light on what changes we’ll be making to the Brightpearl platform:

“As an accounting platform producing VAT returns, we will be providing our UK-based customers with a tool to send these returns to HMRC digitally. We're currently working on this feature and will have it ready before it's required by HMRC in April 2019.

The tool will allow you to send your VAT return contents directly from within the app with a simple click (after authorizing and setting up the app).”

3. Podcast #1: Shifting from Wholesale to D2C with Finlay London’s David Lochhead and Dane Butler

David Lochhead and Dane Butler from British eyewear brand, Finlay London, recently appeared on the vastly popular eCommerce Masterplan Podcast.

The episode focused on the change they made to their business strategy in 2017, which saw them launch a direct-to-consumer channel to fit alongside their existing wholesale business.

5. Article: Return to Sender: The Problem With Banning Serial Returners

Last month, we shared our report about the ‘serial returner’ culture, which threatens to see this type of shopper banned from their favorite stores.

With the holiday season now well underway, serial returners have been hitting the headlines once again.

Featuring guest comments from our very own CEO, Derek O’Carroll, PCR Magazine recently published an interesting take on the returns story, suggesting why it may not be such a good idea to ban serial returners after all.
